It is summertime, and when you live at the beach, that means that it is guest season! In June, we will have friends and/or family in town for three weekends in a row. We are so excited to see them, and I am using it as an excuse to make sure that our whole home is guest ready. Today I am sharing our simple rustic guest bathroom refresh. I didn’t really need to DIY anything in this space – I just used a variety of decor items to make the bathroom feel layered and luxurious thanks to some goodies from Target.
Here is my best advice on 5 Ways to Give Your Bathroom an Instant Rustic Refresh:
Fresh linens can make a huge difference. Towels have a life span, and it is not forever. Give your guests the gift of thick, soft towels. I love these because they are a classic white but have the added punch of an embroidered blue stripe.
Keep a simple color palette – for a classic rustic look, stick to white and shades of “natural” – wood, wicker, rattan – shades that occur in nature. Then, pick one accent color. Because I wanted to give this space the feel of a rustic cottage at the beach, I chose blue for my accent color. Be sure to repeat each of the colors in each “zone” of the room (in this case, the toilet area & the sink area). Sticking to just a few colors is really important in a small space and helps the whole room feel cohesive.
Layer in textures instead of a lot of colors. I tried to bring in elements of wood, straw, ceramic, linen, and glass. Having such variety of finishes within one color family is really on trend at the moment & I love the look because it makes a space really feel collected and curated.
Utilize baskets for storage. You don’t need a huge linen closet or an over the toilet wire rack to have storage in a bathroom. Baskets are an inexpensive and practical way to add texture, a rustic feel, and valuable storage to a space. A triple whammy! I love the vertical basket that I sat on it’s end to store toilet paper next to the toilet.
Toilet paper is an important and often overlooked necessity in a bathroom. There are many things in life where I am okay with a generic brand. Toilet paper is not one of them. My go-to brand of toilet paper is always Quilted Northern®. Lately, I have been purchasing the Quilted Northern Ultra Soft & Strong® Mega Rolls because you never want to run out of toilet paper at the wrong time and have your guests have an unpleasant experience. The Quilted Northern Mega Rolls are 4 regular rolls in one – so they last longer. That means that you change the roll less often than before, one less thing to worry about when preparing for guests!
I picked up all of the decor and the Quilted Northern at my local Target. Target is my go-to store for on-trend decor and everyday necessities.
