Cutlery separators are great for keeping your drawer organized, but they can slip around. Here’s a quick hack for how to keep silverware tray from sliding around in the drawer!
We are currently working on making some small changes to help the kitchen in our condo function better for our daily lives.
Recently, I added a simply vinyl drawer liner to our drawers in a little kitchen update. I’m not used to vinyl, but I like how easy it will make the drawers to wipe up.
However, I never considered how slippery vinyl can be.
When I filled this drawer with my usual plastic silverware divider (from Walmart), I realized that it really slips around the drawer.
It’s hard to capture in photos, but I would have the divider by the front of the drawer, but after opening and closing it, it slid back.
Silly, but annoying.
So, we set out to figure out how to keep the divider from sliding around. And we figured it out!
How to keep silverware tray from sliding
Dealing with a sliding silverware drawer organizer? Here’s how to hold it in place!
Supplies needed:
- Non skid vinyl mesh
- glue of choice
- scissors
Or, you can simply use these peel and stick rubber grips!
A final, buy-nothing option is to use hot glue. Lines of hot glue on the bottom of the divider can have the same grippy effect!
How to make a drawer divider grippy
To keep your drawer divider from sliding around in the drawer, you are going to want to add something grippy to the bottom of it.
Your first option is to cut a grippy material and glue it in a few spots on the bottom.
The previous owner of our condo left a roll of non-skid vinyl in a drawer (its got that grippy mesh on one side), so I cut some strips off of that and used regular Elmers glue to attach it to the bottom of the divider.
You could use any sort of grippy, rubberized material for this.
Align strips or spots of grippies on each of the sections of the underside. Glue or stick on and let dry fully before putting it back.
Once it dried, I replaced it in the drawer. Now even if you slam it, it stays put!
A small difference that most people might not even notice, but it makes me very happy.

I hate that problem! Also, I love the zigzag drawer liners! Plus, it matches your background here.
