Considering staining a project with Puritan Pine wood finish penetrating stain? Did you know that Puritan Pine looks different on every wood species? That should be a big factor before you buy the wood stain or wood.
Here is everything you need to know about it, before making the purchase.
Puritan Pine by Minwax
Puritan Pine is a premium wood stain by Minwax. It is an oil based wood finish. You can use it on hardwood floors or wood furniture or DIY projects.
It is medium brown toned in color with tan undertones. It can sometimes read a bit gray and other times read a bit more light brown, depending on the wood that you apply it to.
You can find this stain on Amazon or at your local hardware store. A can of stain lasts a long time, so it can be used for several projects.
In general, it is always a good idea to do a test stain on a piece of wood to verify desired color.
We tested this stain on five types of wood to see how it looks – whitewood, poplar, plywood, pine, and oak.
How does Puritan Pine look on pine?
Pine is a soft wood that can absorb stain in a really blotchy way – so be sure to use a wood conditioner prior to staining. This stain penetrates deep and will draw attention to any flaws.
The natural wood grain of the pine absorbed this stain in different ways – really making the grain pop. It gives the wood an almost two toned look.
How does Puritan Pine look on plywood?
I really dig how this stain looks on the plywood. There’s not that much grain to the plywood, but the color really settles into the detail that is there in what I think is a beautiful way.
How does Puritan Pine look on poplar?
Poplar can have green undertones, making it an interesting wood surface to stain. The wood tone color really gives it a cooler feel than compared to other types of wood.
This color really goes deep into the pores and makes every bit of the detail to the wood pop. The stain reads as a chocolatey color in the grooves and very very light in the rest of the wood.
How does Puritan Pine look on whitewood?
Whitewood has a lot of grain, striations, and knots to it. This finish is a penetrating color and really draws attention to those different features. This could be good or bad, depending on the look you are going for.
How does Puritan Pine look on oak?
Oak is a hard wood that you might use for furniture, cabinets, trim or doors.
I love how it looks with Puritan Pine stain. I think that it makes the Oak look rich without disguising it’s natural beauty. This is a definite winning combination!
