Wondering about the latest Kitchen Cabinet Trends? Here’s what’s trending in kitchen designs and some simple ideas for how to get the look in your home!
The kitchen is known as the heart of the home. It is also one of the spaces in your home that can be the hardest to renovate and keep up with the trends.
While I will always advocate for a timeless design in the basics, it can be fun to make some small updates periodically based on what is trending in the home interior design world.
I want to be clear – no one expects you to renovate your kitchen every five years.
But, little updates like changing out knobs, or even painting your island can be a fun way to follow trends without having to live through or pay for any renovations.
Today I want to talk about trends specifically regarding kitchen cabinets. Cabinetry is really the base of your kitchen and the colors, styles, and designs go in and out of trends all of the time.
Here are some of the fun and interesting trends you can look forward to in kitchen cabinetry this year.
Top Kitchen Cabinet Trends for 2025
Here are the biggest trends in kitchen cabinetry this year!
Lose the Uppers
Maybe a decade ago, the trend was to replace upper cabinets with floating shelves. Now, high end kitchens are doing no uppers at all. They might have an oversized range hood and a couple of full height cabinets (that go all the way down to the counters) framing the stove, but otherwise, they are leaving the walls open.
This definitely opens the space and makes a kitchen feel more airy.
However, unless you have an extra large kitchen with plenty of lower cabinetry, it’s probably not super practical. Clearly, you need those uppers for storage!
I do love this trend as an alternative to open shelving – I personally find any significant amount of open shelving in the kitchen to be dirty – dusty and greasy.
If you have the ability to drop an upper – maybe off the end of the row – consider trying it out to see if it opens up your space.
Alternatively, consider frosted glass fronts for your cabinets. This will mimic the lighter feeling up top while maintaining storage space.
Color on the Cabinets
Stark white cabinets are no longer the default as many people lean towards color for cabinetry.
You can read all of the trending colors of the year here, but think warm and a bit bold!
Trending paint colors for 2025 are earthy, warm, and a bit bolder than 5 years ago. Think chocolate brown, olive green, taupe, blush pink, sage green, and even muted, gray-tinted shades of purple.
If you like white, consider a slightly off-white, creamy paint color for a bit of depth. I have noticed a lot of people choosing beige, which is still bright and soft but feels warm and cozy compared to start white.
Remember – your kitchen should be a reflection of you and your personal taste. These are just trends to inspire you!
Warm Woods
Wood tones are back, baby, and there’s no where that is more true than in the kitchen. If you have wood cabinets – this is their time to shine!
If not, you could add wood accents via a range hood, furniture or decor.
Look for mid-toned woods with warm undertones that complement your existing flooring and accessories.
Door Style
In addition to cabinet colors and materials, door styles change with the trends over the years.
Flat front doors (often called slab doors) are super popular, and especially beautiful when doing a solid stained wood cabinet.
Shaker doors are also popular, but I have been seeing a lot of slim shaker, with a much more narrow trim on the door face.
Gold Hardware
Gold is still the predominate color for hardware and other fixtures. Designers love it for it’s warmth and pop against darker and warmer colors, which are also trending.
Hardware is super easy and inexpensive to swap out. Check out our tutorial for how to change cabinet hardware and consider adding gold ones this year!
Greens
The color green is still having a big moment. It’s a great color for kitchen cabinets or an island. Or, bring in green with pops of decor and accessories.
Even a green hand towel can make a space feel more on-trend!
Bold Lighting
It’s important to have plenty of lighting in your kitchen, but who says it has to be boring. Upgrade your blah can lights with a couple of interesting pendants.
This can be a great way to work in trending materials – like woven natural rattan or gold metallics – in a very functional way.
Beverage Bars
One fun way to upgrade your kitchen without doing a big renovation is to add a beverage bar. This could be a wine fridge with accompanying glass storage, or a countertop coffee bar.
Setting up a fun drinks station is a way to give an awkward corner of your kitchen a purpose and a fun chance to decorate.
If you have a lot of smaller items, consider grouping them together in small bowls on trays to keep them organized and looking tidy.
Beautiful Range Hoods
A range hood is a great opportunity to create a focal point in your kitchen. These appliances are important for ensuring your kitchen air stays fresh, but who says they can’t look great while doing it!
Consider painting it an accent color or choosing a unique material so that it stands out from the surrounding cabinets.
