Things to consider in your DIY home office makeover

Here are the top factors to consider when updating your workspace.

Paint Colors

One of the easiest ways to refresh any space is with a fresh coat of paint. Choosing the best paint color for your home office can go a long way towards making the space feel light, bright, and like a happy place to work.

Lighting

You will want to be sure that you have plenty of bright light to work with. I like to have at least 3 light sources in every room – if you have a very bright window, that can count as one.

Consider overhead lighting, task lighting like desk lamps or under cabinet lights, and more mood lighting like a table or floor lamp.

Think of how you use the space – if you do detailed paperwork, you will want a bright desk lamp. If you are mostly on a computer, having softer lighting might be easier on the eyes!

Large work space

Depending on the type of work that you do, you may need an open tabletop to spread out on. Consider how you will use the space when choosing a desk size. If you just need to be able to fit a small laptop, you might be better off using the space for open shelves and other storage!

Comfy seating

You are likely to sit a lot in an office, so a comfy chair is a must. Look for something with a higher back and a comfortable cushion.

Also consider a material that is a bit darker or easier to clean – white chairs can get very dirty from being sat on all the time!

Built ins

I love adding built ins to an office. They are a great way to add storage and a focal point to your space.

If you have an open wall, consider adding cabinetry for hidden storage!
