I’ve had this lamp in my room for over a year. I originally got both the pieces at Goodwill & recovered the shade to make it match my pink & blue pinstriped preppy bedroom. However, my new room has more of a natural feel, so I needed to change it up. So, I decided to turn it into a DIY rope and cork lamp.
DIY Rope & Cork Lamp
Here’s what I started with:
So, I started off by cutting strips out of the leftover cork. I rolled the shade along the roll & traced the long rectangle that it made. Then I just used hot glue to attach it to the shade, right over the old shade.
It was super-duper easy. Here’s how it looked after I was done, sort of ghetto sitting on top of the lamp, without the bulb or the shade attached correctly.
Then I started to recover the lamp. I figured I would give it a totally different look using left over rope from our coaster project.
I once again used hot glue to attach it. I just started at the bottom and slowly spiraled my way up. It took forever, but was easy to do while watching House Hunters.
I cut the rope & started a new piece on the other side of the plug, just so there wasn’t a weird lump.
Here’s how it looked in the end:
I can’t decide if I like it yet or not. I might switch it up & throw a white or solid fabric shade on the lamp & put the cork on a solid lamp. We will see where it ends up.
Here is the DIY rope & cork lamp on the cheapo side table that I can’t wait to replace (but where I need a lamp):
& here it is on the side table that we refinished here.
