Check out the bedroom corner sitting area that we set up and see the simple furnishings and decor that we chose to add to the space!
Sometimes I feel like our home has been fully decorated, and other times I am reminded of little spaces that will constantly be evolving around the house.
One of those areas is the corner of our primary bedroom.
For years, this was home to our dog CiCi's bed and toy basket and kind of her domain. She sadly passed away at the age of 14 ½ last year and the space has been sitting empty ever since.
I finally decided I was ready to do something with the space, so we decided to turn it into a little reading nook. Will we sit here and read a ton? Probably not.
But I have sat here a few times and our cat Bear is enjoying sitting there, too. And, having the space a little less empty makes me a little less sad every time I look at it, so let's call it a win.
Our Bedroom Corner Sitting Area
Here's what we decided to include in our bedroom sitting area!
See all of the items in our reading nook in one convenient list here!
Armchair + Ottoman with storage
This whole setup started with this beautiful boucle armchair.
What I love about this chair is that is has a small ottoman that tucks 100% inside the chair when not in use.
And, the ottoman opens for storage!
To be fully transparent - this is not a large or super cushy chair.
It's not uncomfortable - I return any chair or furniture that sucks to sit on. It sits just fine, but you aren't sinking in and curling up, if that makes sense.
But, it's a totally fine seat and the perfect compact size (and low price!) we were looking for for this space.
I paired it with this Boucle Throw Pillow (cover only, add your own pillow). I love how the textures match but it gives a pop of color that perfectly match our walls!
Our wall color in here is Behr North Woods.
Floor lamp
Since we were setting this up as a reading nook, I had to add a reading lamp.
We toyed around with a few different options, but settled on this gold modern floor lamp in the 3 bulb version.
For the record - Sean liked the 5 bulb version better - but I just was really into the curly cue S-shape of this one and he didn't actually care that much, hahaha.
I love how the lamp sort of mimics our bedside lamps without matching them explicitly.
Little plant wall
Y'all know I can't resist a houseplant moment, but honestly this corner is way too dark for live plants.
It's not only far away from any window, but the windows in this room are north-facing, so they get the least possible light to begin with.
We do move some of the plants from our porch (right off the bedroom) into this corner in winter weather, but otherwise I wanted something super easy.
I am always trimming cuttings off of my various pothos plants, and they do just fine without sunlight, so I added three of these fun wall propagating glasses.
I love how they look and look forward to keeping them stocked with a rotating variety of plant cuttings!
Wall art
I did want to mention the wall art in here - it is a gorgeous original by local artist Blakely Little. We own two of her original pieces and several prints - I'm a bit obsessed!
We have actually owned this piece for about 2 years and it's just been hanging on the wall in this exact spot. I thought we might have to move it as we set up the nook, but I loved it as-is!
Basket storage
Finally, I added a large basket for blanket storage next to the chair.
Honestly, it's a little redundant with the ottoman serving as blanket storage, too. Afterall - how many blankets do you need for one small chair?
But the basket has a few purposes.
One - I already owned it so it was a free addition. Win!
Two - it hides the outlet and plug to the floor lamp here, which was ugly and bothering me. Win!
Three - it adds some nice texture and a natural tone that ties nicely to the wood stain color of our four poster bed.
Simple, but great finishing addition to the space!
What's to come?
Currently, I have this little side table (saved in our attic from Luke's nursery!) next to the chair, but that is temporary.
The plan is for Sean to build a not-too-wide bookshelf for this spot - maybe with an arched top?
He still has to finish up some final touches in the kitchen and build a few more pressing pieces for downstairs first, so I wanted to reveal this space as-is - just know it will be evolving!
