Looking for the best brewery hopping route in Asheville, NC? This will give you the best self-guided route you can do in a day!
One of the best things you can do in North Carolina is a brewery hopping day in Asheville!
Asheville has the best brewery scene in all of the Carolinas and there are literally dozens to choose from.
The great thing about Asheville breweries is that they are a great place to visit for any type of person. Whether you’re with a bachelor party or hanging out with your toddlers, the Asheville brewery scene is amazing.
If you have an upcoming bachelor party or bachelorette party in Asheville, you need to set aside a day to go on a brew hop. The best choice for this is to pick a route that is all walking and doesn’t require you to drive at all. Grab a ride to the start, walk the route and then catch a ride home.
This is the best brewery hopping route in all of Asheville to get the best day you can!

Best self-guided brew hop route in Asheville
I have been to Asheville breweries many times over the years and when I was recently put in charge of planning a bachelor party for a group of guys in their mid-30s, I put together this route based on all my knowledge.
This is the best self-guided brewery tour in Asheville because you can walk a short distance from location to location and start and end with some food.
Remember that there are dozens of other breweries in Asheville (and even some others along this route), but this is the best set for one day. Hit up some of the others individually when you have a chance.
Also, please excuse that I don’t have pictures of each stop because, you know, I was busy hopping. Let’s dive into this day.
Don’t forget to go to the Biltmore Estate at some point on your trip!
Where to start a brewery hop in Asheville
If you’re going to do a full day of drinking beer in Asheville, the smart thing to do is to start with a good solid lunch.
We recommend starting out at White Duck Taco Shop for lunch at noon and sitting out on the back patio.
There’s seating inside and out, but the back patio is wonderful on a nice day. Grab a couple tacos (Bangkok Shrimp is my favorite) and some queso and get a good base in.
You can also start with your first beer here by getting their light and refreshing White Duck Lager.
Best Asheville brew hop route
After lunch, you can walk over to the first brewery and then walk from location to location in a slight zig zag, but mostly straight, line through town. Feel free to skip however many of these you want, especially if you’re having a good time at one or another.
Number 1- One World Brewing
Address: 10 Patton Avenue
One World Brewing has a couple of locations, but this one is just a short walk from White Duck. When you go down the alley, you then have to go down a couple floors underground.
The vibe here is really cool and they have some great beers. Try to start with something a little lighter here since you have a lot to go.
One cool feature here is that they have a Dutch shuffleboard type game called Sjoelbak that you can compete on with your friends. You try to get as many points as possible throwing wooden disks through small holes (I’m definitely going to be making one of these soon!).
Number 2- Highland Brewing
Address: 56 Patton Avenue
Highland Brewing has had a brewery in the hills of Asheville for a really long time, but they recently opened this location in a food court style building downtown. It’s on the second floor and has a cool 70’s vibe to the whole thing.
One of my favorite classics from Highland is their Gaelic Ale, but they have lots of great tastes. There’s good seating and a cool scene.
This is also a great place to grab a snack if you skipped out on the lunch recommendation, as there are lots of food places in here too.
Number 3- Hi-Wire
Address: 197 Hilliard Avenue
Hi-Wire Brewing now has a lot of locations all over North Carolina, but this one is great. The bright colors and happy vibes going on make it a great place to hang out.
The seating here is all in the warehouse but there is ample seating next to the brewing equipment and has roll up garage doors giving you the inside/outside feel.
They have some really cool beers here to try, including a lot of lighter, fruitier beers and they have good food options too to keep you going.
Number 4- Funkatorium
Address: 147 Coxe Avenue
The Wicked Weed Funkatorium is probably the highlight of this route as they have some of the most interesting beers at any point you go. And make sure to note that this is not the same as the Wicked Weed regular tap room.
The Funkatorium is an “it spot” and has tons of great outdoor seating with huge picnic tables under covers. If you have a beautiful day, this is a great place to spend a little extra time.
The beers here are always rotating and have interesting fruit concoctions that you’ll have to try.
Number 5- Twin Leaf
Address: 144 Coxe Avenue
Twin Leaf Brewery is a good option, but let me tell you what makes it special… donut pairings.
Several of their beers come with an add-on donut pairing that is just the perfect treat at this point in the beer hike. I was too busy eating it to take a picture of it…
Number 6- Green Man
Address: 27 Buxton Avenue
Green Man is a cool two story brewery that has different areas for families and groups and even has a second story patio that you can use or reserve.
It’s a big place with lots of history and good beer and you don’t want to miss this one.
Number 7- Burial
Address: 40 Collier Avenue
Burial Beer is the best way to end this tour. They have some of the best beer on this list and the scene is great.
You can sit in any number of outdoor areas and by now it should be shaded and the evening is feeling good. They have great beer and a ton of space. They can get crowded, but wait because it’s worth it and dinner is next.
You can also grab dinner (more on that next) and bring it over here to eat. Nothing better than that.
Where to end your brewery hop in Asheville
Address: 46 Millard Avenue
After all that beer, you’re going to need to soak it all up. For that, you’re going to want to grab some gigantic pizzas from PIE.ZAA.
PIE.ZAA serves massive 28″ pizzas and keeps the flavors simple. They only have cheese, pepperoni, sausage and a pizza of the month.
My group of 13 guys ordered 4 pizzas and it was way too much, so take that into consideration. I’d recommend placing your order online in advance because they can get busy if you’re ordering a couple full pies.
Things to keep in mind while brewery hopping in Asheville
First and foremost, your health and safety should always be at top of mind and know your limits. Don’t take this list as a “I must do all of these breweries” type of list. Pick and choose from it, but walking in this order will get you from lunch to dinner over the course of the afternoon. Also, never leave a friend behind.
Secondly, remember to hydrate with water along the way. Carry a water bottle if you can, but all of these establishments have water available to everyone, so try to go a water for every beer so you can maintain your pace.
Third, stay shaded. If you’re doing these hop in the summer, it can get pretty toasty out there. Sit inside the air conditioning whenever possible.
Fourth, open alcohol containers are not permitted on the streets of Asheville, NC. Make sure you don’t take your drink off the premises.
Finally, have fun! Make sure that this route is best for you and your friends and you’re always staying safe and enjoying yourself.
