Want to get your TV off the floor and into a more beautiful situation? Here are a ton of DIY TV stand ideas to inspire you!

like it or not, TVs are often the centerpiece of a families living room. So, why not make them look good?

We personally have transitioned from using a TV stand to having a frame TV hanging on the wall.

But even with a wall-mounted TV, you usually need some sort of media console to hold all of the wires and gizmos and gadgets that go with the TV.

Whether you want a modern TV stand, an elaborate entertainment center, or a simple media consult, it can be a fairly easy, build to make a homemade TV stand.

Today we want to dive into some beautiful and popular TV stand plans and tutorials to help you build the perfect TV stand for your home.

DIY TV stands

What can I use instead of a TV stand?

While TV stands are a popular choice for organizing your entertainment center, there are several creative alternatives you can consider:

  • Floating Shelves: Utilize floating shelves mounted on the wall to hold your TV and AV components. This sleek and minimalist approach can create a visually appealing display.
  • Credenza or Sideboard: Repurpose a credenza or sideboard to serve as your TV stand. Their ample storage space and stylish designs make them great alternatives.
  • Entertainment Center Wall Unit: Build a custom entertainment center with shelving and cabinets that span the entire wall, providing a dedicated space for your TV and other media devices.
  • Console Table: Use a sturdy console table with ample width and storage as a TV stand. This option works well in smaller spaces or as a decorative addition to your TV area.

Things to Consider When Planning Your TV Stand Build:

Before you embark on crafting your DIY media console, here are some important factors to keep in mind:

TV Size and Weight

Ensure that your TV stand can support the size and weight of your television. Check the TV's specifications for weight information and choose appropriate materials and construction methods.

Typically, you want a custom TV stand to be 2-3" wider than the TV on each side. It can be smaller than the TV if the TV is wall-mounted and it's more of a media console.

Storage Needs

Determine the amount of storage space you require for media devices, remote controls, and other accessories.

Incorporate shelves, drawers, or compartments into your design accordingly. Consider adding cabinets for drawers for hidden storage.

Cable Management

Plan for cable management solutions to keep cords and wires organized and hidden from view. This will maintain a clean and clutter-free look for your entertainment area.

This is especially important for wall-mounted TVs - you don't want a cord clothesline ruining the sleek look!

Style and Aesthetics

Match the design of your TV stand with the overall theme of your home decor. Whether it's rustic, modern, or eclectic, choose materials and finishes that complement your style.

For example, a barn door TV console would look strange in a modern home, and mid century hairpin legs might stand out in a very traditional space!

Skill Level and Tools

Assess your DIY skills and the tools you have access to. Select a TV stand design that aligns with your abilities, or use this project as an opportunity to learn new techniques. A DIY project is fun - but if it's too complicated, it can become a burden! Plan something that you will realistically complete.

Now that you're equipped with the know-how and inspiration, it's time to dive into these fantastic DIY TV stand tutorials. Let's get crafting and bring your dream home entertainment center to life!
