Want to take your holiday table up a notch? Here’s a simple tutorial on how to make easy DIY place cards with ribbon.
Hosting for the holidays can be stressful – and expensive. I love little touches that you can prep in advance and make using simple supplies you already have on hand.
I saw these really cute place cards with velvet ribbon bows and gold ric rac trim. I loved them, but as a crafter with a big ribbon stash, knew I could make them for a lot less than $3 a pop.
This is a super simple craft that could be customized for any holiday, party theme, or color scheme. Here’s how I made these simple place cards!
Easy DIY place cards with ribbon
Here’s how easy it is to make these ribbon place cards for your holiday table setting!
Supplies needed:
- Cardstock
- Scissors
- Ric rac
- 1/4″ ribbon
- Hot glue
- Thin tip pen
Steps to make:
STEP 1: Determine the size of your card
Decide what size you want your finished place cards to be. This could depend on your plate size, what else you have going on on the table, and how large you want the text to be.
My cards are about 2″ tall and 4″ wide, once folded.
STEP 2: Cut and fold cardstock
Cut your cardstock to the desired size. Remember to make it twice as tall as you want it to end up.
Fold the card in half and crease well.
STEP 3: Add ric rac
Heat up your hot glue.
Measure a strip of ric rac slightly longer than the length of your card.
Apply a thin line along the front bottom of one of the cut edges of the card.
Press the ric rac into place. Use scissors to trim excess.
STEP 4: Add bow
Tie a small ribbon bow, twisting the ribbon so the “good side” faces in one direction. Trim excess.
Apply a dot of hot glue to the top center of your place card and firmly press the bow into place.
STEP 5: Write name
Use a pen to write the name on the center of the card, making sure it’s visible beneath the tails of the bow.
That’s it! Simple and sweet, and a great way to add a special touch to your holiday table, using supplies you already have in your craft closet!
