Halloween is right around the corner – can you believe that fall is in the air already? This is the time of year when sweets and candy are everywhere, making it really tempting to pop one in your mouth as you walk through the kitchen or past someone’s candy jar at work. One way we’ve found to make yourself feel a little better about it is to add a little healthy and fun pop to your Halloween experience.
We started out by picking up a bag of candy at Walmart as well as a few apples. We also grabbed a pack of Stouffers® Classic Mac Cups from the freezer section to eat during the process. Walmart has a great candy selection right now – a whole aisle! It makes it hard to choose. We went with Butterfinger® Fun Size, and Nestlé Jumbo Assorted Fun Size Candy. Chocolate is always my favorite!
We wanted to make chocolate dipped apple slices with a candy crumble. This is a super simple process, but it goes really quickly. First, we picked out some Crunch bars from the assorted candy and melted them down in a pot with a little coconut oil.
Definitely remove the wrappers first!
While they were melting (remember to stir so as not to burn the chocolate!), we used our apple slicer to cut perfectly even apple slices.
Then, we opened a few of the Butterfinger candies and popped them into our blender where we pulverized them into crispy, crunchy flakes.
When the chocolate is done melting, move quick. Start off by dipping each apple slice into the chocolate about halfway and scooping it out. Then set it on some parchment paper so it doesn’t stick to anything.
Then sprinkle the crushed Butterfinger pieces onto the chocolate-dipped slices.
Toss them in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to cool and harden.
While you’re waiting (longest 30 minutes ever!), you’re probably going to work up an appetite. That’s when we fired up a Stouffers Classic Mac Cup in the microwave. These frozen cups are quite tasty and cook in only three minutes. Perfect too for your kids before they go trick-or-treating!
After about 30 minutes, the chocolate on your apple slices should be hardened up. Just pull them out, plate them, and serve! Everyone will love them. They have the crunch of the Nestle Crunch in the chocolate, the crisp and juicy flavor fro the apple, and the sweetness of the Butterfinger crumble. This is the perfect party food to satisfy anyone’s sweet cravings.
What are your go to Halloween foods?
