Looking for a new costco couch? Here's our honest Henredon Murphy Fabric Modular Sectional Review!
We are almost done with our kitchen renovation. Since our kitchen are living room are really one big "great room" we decided to do a little refresh in our living room to help tie the two spaces together.
The couch that we had in here was never right for the space - it was leftover from our old house, we just didn't make replacing it a priority at this time (it was super comfy!)
We first ordered a couch off of Amazon and it was beautiful but so, so, so uncomfortable, so we returned it.
Next, we went in person to the La Z Boy store in town. They had some beautiful options - though they were limited in what would work in the size of our space. We wanted something slightly longer than standard, but not too long that it wouldn't fit on this one specific wall, and definitely not a sectional because of the layout of the space with the fireplace blocking the far wall.
Everything at La Z Boy was $5,000+ which, to be honest, was just not in the budget at the moment.
Then, we were grocery shopping at Costco and I remembered that they had so many nice couches! We went online to order the couch we sat on in the store, when I saw a different couch that stopped me in my tracks.
This Henredon Murphy sofa is GORGEOUS and looks so high end, but was under $2,000. Which is a ton of money, but less than half the price of what we saw at La Z Boy.
Plus, it is a modular sofa - so we could use some of the pieces as chairs as well as the sofa! And, we have great faith in Costco. In the spring we ordered a fridge from Costco, didn't like it, and they came and picked it up no problem.
Here's what we think of this sofa!
Henredon Murphy Fabric Modular Sectional Review
Here is a complete and honest review of our costco couch - the Henredon Murphy Fabric Modular Sectional from Costco!
Fabric
The fabric of this couch is described as a boucle but it's not the fuzzy/furry boucle that you might imagine.
It's definitely bumpy - but very soft and not at all furry.
It comes in cream or gray. Ours is cream. It's almost white, but definitely warmer than pure white. I love the color!
You can request fabric samples for free directly from Costco- that's what we did! Cream is 1695539 and Dark Grey is 1783060.
The only negative on the fabric is that I tried to use my Little Green Machine upholstery cleaner on it and the brush kind of made that spot look shaggy/worn. I will not clean it that way again!
Functionality
I love that this couch is modular so the pieces can be moved around. There are 2 corner pieces and 3 armless pieces.
So you could do an L-shape, a U-shape, a long long couch, or like we did a couch and 2 chairs.
You can also push all the pieces together to make a bed - perfect for movie night.
There is also an ottoman, which I love. It does make a coffee table tricky - no real spot for it in our configuration - so keep that in mind depending on your desired set up.
I do wish that the ottoman opened for storage - it would be great to be able to keep extra blankets in there.
The pieces do have a tendency to slide apart if you move around on the couch a lot. I have found that they don't really slide when on a rug - but it slid pretty badly on the wood floor!
You can get modular couch connector clips - I have not personally tried them but they should work on this couch.
Comfort
This couch is super comfortable. I was worried about the low back being uncomfortable, but that is not an issue at all!
The only issue I have with the cushions is that the back cushions are not attached, so they do tend to flop over a bit, but they have a lot more stuffing than the modular couch we got from Amazon.
You could add peel and stick velcro, but I decided not to because I like having the option to flip them if needed.
They aren't like falling all over the place, but they do move around some.
Value
While I still think $2,000 is a very high price, it was a great deal for this sofa.
Considering we got a 3 seater couch, ottoman, and 2 chairs out of the deal, I am very happy with our buy! Plus, we're making up the cost by selling all the old furniture from the room.
It's a great quality, beautiful, and super comfortable! Plus, delivery was easy and completely white glove, included!
Overall Thoughts
If you're considering buying a Costco couch, the Henredon Murphy modular sectional is a great buy. It is comfortable, beautiful, and looks great in our space.
There's so many configuration options and you can mix it up even day to day.
I am really happy with our purchase!
