What is the Kreg Tool Portable Crosscut?
The Kreg Portable Crosscut is a handheld cutting guide for circular saws. The Portable Crosscut is used to place on the board you’re cutting and use as a guide for your circular saw.
It’s a small tool that is placed directly on your work surface and can be adjusted for straight 90 degree crosscuts or 45 degree cuts.
The Portable Crosscut serves as a fence guide for you to run your circular saw against in the position you want to make your cut.
Another advantage of the Portable Crosscut is it’s easy to place and use and move repeatedly.
What do I use the Kreg Tool Portable Crosscut for?
The Kreg Portable Crosscut is used for accurate, on-the-go cuts with a circular saw.
The Portable Crosscut acts very similar to a speed square, but with more stability. If you need straight cuts or an accurate 45 degree cut, the Portable Crosscut will give you that.
How do I use the Kreg Tool Portable Crosscut?
Using the Kreg Portable Crosscut is fairly simple. It serves as an edge guide for making cuts on boards (up to 8″ wide) with a circular saw.
You put your circular saw up against the Crosscut guide and push through the wood. It has adjustable/retracting cutline guides that allow you to set where the cut needs to be made.
The Portable Crosscut is very sturdy because it has their GripMaxx surface that doesn’t slide. You don’t need to use a clamp or anything for the Portable Crosscut, just hold it with your hand.
What are the pros of the Kreg Tool Portable Crosscut?
The Kreg Portable Crosscut is great for on the go cuts. I see this as a super handy tool if you’re working in the backyard on an outdoor project and only have your circular saw, but still want accuracy.
The Portable Crosscut will give you perfectly straight 90 degree or 45 degree cuts for you circular saw.
It’s extremely lightweight, flat and easy to transport and requires zero setup.
What are the cons of the Kreg Tool Portable Crosscut?
I don’t find the self-retracting cutline indicators to be super user-friendly. They are supposed to be for lining up where you cut is going to be.
To me, it’s much easier to just move the Portable Crosscut itself with the circular saw lined up where you need it to be, then push the saw through the wood. I don’t even mess with the retracting guides.
How to I assemble the Kreg Tool Portable Crosscut?
The Kreg Portable Crosscut requires zero assembly and comes ready to go right out of the package. You will want to read about how the retracting indicators work, but they are already installed.
Where do I buy the Kreg Tool Portable Crosscut?
The Kreg Portable Crosscut is available in store and online wherever you’ve bought Kreg products before, including Amazon, Home Depot, Lowe’s and KregTool.com
The Kreg Portable Crosscut will retail for $24.99.
