Looking for the perfect accent colors to pair with Sherwin Williams Pure White? Here are my favorites + my tips for choosing your own!
Picking paint colors can be hard work! Maybe you thought you were taking the easy route with a white paint color. But, no two whites are exactly the same and they can really look different with different accent colors.
While white paint colors are neutral, they tend to reflect different accent colors – and different lighting – in ways that really change the way the white paints look.
That’s why it’s so important to pick the right white – and the right accent colors – for your space.
Today We are going to talk about Sherwin Williams Pure White.

How to select your accent colors
When choosing accent colors for your home, there are a few things to keep in mind.
First of all, and probably the biggest with this color, is if you want a neutral color scheme or if you want to bring in pops of color.
Obviously, with neutrals you will bring in other shades of gray, beige, and white.
If you want more of a bold pop of color, you then need to decide what color family you want – cool tones like blues, or warm tones like golds for example.
Consider non-changeable things in your home like trim color, flooring and kitchen cabinets. Sure, they could be changed, but if you don’t plan to change them, select colors that pair well with those tones.
Also keep in mind the lighting in your home. If your room gets a lot of natural light, darker colors might appear to be lighter and brighter.
Lighting really effects wall colors and you should look at all colors in daytime and night time to be sure you still like them.
How to use accent colors
Accent colors can be used to paint accent walls or painted furniture.
They can also be used for curtains, rugs, pillows, or accents like lamps and home decor.
How to shop for accent colors
When looking for the perfect accent pieces to match your home, try this hack!
Get a paint sample or paint swatch of Agreeable Gray and stick it in your car or bag.
When you are shopping, you can quickly pull out the sample and compare it to make sure you like how the colors coordinate!

Pure White SW7005
Sherwin Williams Pure White is a bright white that is not too stark.
Pure White undertones
Pure white has slightly yellow undertones. It does not read yellow at all but more slightly creamy – which keeps it from being cold or stark.
However, you need to keep these undertones in mind when selecting coordinating colors!
Pure White Coordinating Colors
Pure White is a very neutral paint color and can work with most color schemes. However, you want to remember those warm undertones. For that reason, I try to avoid anything with icy cold undertones – no crisp blues or purples.
Instead, stick to complementary warm coordinating colors.
Pure White + Neutral colors
Pure White has a little gray and a little yellow to it. So, stick to warm-toned neutrals to pair it with. I like something a bit darker for contrast. Try:
- Gauntlet Gray
- Accessible Beige
- Dover White
Pure White bold accent colors
Pure White can work with almost any color scheme. However, I like to use white walls as a part of a modern-looking home. Some modern accent colors – with bold color – that coordinate well include:
- Tricorn black (read my favorite black paints here)
- Charcoal Blue
- Basil
What trim color should I use with Pure White?
For white walls, I actually like to match the trim to the paint! So, stick with Pure White for trim. I suggest a flat or eggshell sheen for walls and semi-gloss for trim work. Read my guide to paint sheens here!

What is the difference between Sherwin Williams pure white and extra white?
Pure White is a warmer, creamier white while extra white has more cool undertones.
I personally prefer pure white for walls and extra white for trim!
Does pure white go with agreeable gray?
Pure White and agreeable gray both have warm undertones and complement each other well for a neutral color scheme. Pure White makes a great trim color for Agreeable Gray, too!
What is the difference between Sherwin Williams pure white and alabaster?
Alabaster is another popular warm white paint color from Sherwin Williams. Alabaster is much creamier with heavier yellow undertones compared to Pure White!
Is Pure White a good kitchen cabinet color?
Pure White is the perfect white paint color to use on kitchen cabinets. It’s clean without being stark, and will complement most color schemes.
