Top Kitchen Trends for 2025

Here are the top trends for kitchen design this year.

1. Warm, Earthy Tones

Earthy tones have been on trend for a year or two now and they are not going anywhere.

I personally love these shades for bringing a natural warmth to your home. They are great colors for making kitchens feel cozy and inviting.

Some of my favorite earth tones to use in the kitchen include: terracotta, green-gray, and warm brown. They are great at adding warmth and depth to a space.

How to Add It to Your Kitchen

If you want to add earth tones to your kitchen, you could consider painting the cabinets or island an earthy color.

If you don’t want anything as drastic as paint, consider bringing in earth-toned accessories like linens, utensils, or canisters for a subtle use of color.

2. Mixed Materials

Mixed materials refers to the blending of contrasting materials, such as wood, stone, and metal.

This is a great way to add texture and interest to a space without necessarily adding more color or patterns. It’s a great option if you want a neutral look that doesn’t feel boring.

How to Add It to Your Kitchen

It’s easy to bring a variety of materials into your kitchen. First, inventory what materials you already have, like a stone counter or glass backsplash.

Then, bring in contrasting textures. This could be a metal tray, woven barstools, a ceramic canister, or wooden spoons. Any way to bring in different textures adds character and interest!

3. Statement Lighting

Lighting is an important element of any kitchen design – you can’t cook without light! – and it is functional as well as decorative.

While you can always go for sleek can lights, currently statement lighting is trending in a big way.

This could mean a bold chandelier, interesting pendants, or even unexpected sconces in the kitchen.

Lighting is a great way to follow the trends, because it can be swapped out without affecting the function or otherwise flow of the space, if you so choose to do so down the line.

How to Add It to Your Kitchen

Swap out standard light fixtures for bold pendants or chandeliers over islands or dining spaces.

Choose classic materials like brass, glass, or natural fibers to keep it timeless – while following the trend.

4. Mixed Metals

The trend of mixing metals—like brass, matte black, and stainless steel—creates visual interest without overwhelming the design.

It’s a fun way to mix in the unexpected and keep a space from feeling boring without bringing in bold color or pattern.

I always suggest having each metal finish appear 3 times in your space so it looks intentional and not just mix-matched.

How to Add It to Your Kitchen

Replace cabinet pulls, faucets, or light fixtures with a mix of metals for a balanced look.

Consider mixing warm tones (brass) with cool tones (chrome or black) to maintain a cohesive yet interesting aesthetic.

5. Natural Textures and Materials

Incorporating organic textures like wood, stone, and woven materials brings a touch of nature indoors, creating a warm, lived-in feeling.

These materials are timeless and age well, making them an investment in both style and functionality.

How to Add It to Your Kitchen

Add wooden accents such as open shelving, butcher block countertops, or wood furniture.

Bring in stone for a backsplash, accessories, or flooring.

Use natural fiber rugs or woven storage baskets to subtly introduce texture without committing to large-scale changes.

6. Hidden Storage and Built-In Organization

An organized kitchen is going to look more magazine-worthy than a cluttered one – that’s just the reality!

Kitchens that are both beautiful and functional maximize space efficiency, with built-in organization that keeps everything within reach but out of sight.

Hidden storage solutions offer a clutter-free look that never goes out of style.

How to Add It to Your Kitchen

Take an hour to declutter your space and get rid of anything that is no longer serving you. It’s always easier to organize less junk!

Install pull-out shelves, drawer organizers, or lazy Susans inside cabinets to maximize space.

Consider adding built-in spice drawer, hidden trash cabinets, or custom cabinetry to declutter countertops while keeping everyday items accessible.

7. Statement Backsplashes

Backsplashes don’t have to be boring! A bold backsplash can instantly become a focal point in the kitchen, adding personality without overwhelming the space.

Choose a timeless material like subway tile or stone, but in a bold color or pattern to blend classic and modern aesthetics.

How to Add It to Your Kitchen

Tiling a backsplash is approachable for many DIY homeowners and allows for you to pick any tile that you like.

Consider geometric patterns, herringbone designs, or adding color with classic tile materials for a unique yet timeless look.

8. Large Multi-Functional Islands

Kitchen islands are still a super popular layout option – and for a good reason! We just re-designed our kitchen to remove a peninsula and install and island and the space feels so much more open now.

Of course, that’s not a small project (though we did DIY it!)

Kitchen islands offer more than just extra counter space. They serve as hubs for cooking, dining, storage, and even socializing.

An island with built-in storage, seating, or even a sink can enhance functionality without sacrificing style.

How to Add It to Your Kitchen

Expand your existing island or add features like extra storage, a small fridge, or a prep sink.

If space is limited, consider a portable island or a smaller kitchen cart that can serve multiple functions while adding extra workspace.

9. Integrated Technology

Smart kitchens are becoming increasingly popular, with integrated technology making everyday life easier for homeowners.

From smart appliances to built in charging stations, these features keep your kitchen cutting-edge without compromising on aesthetics.

How to Add It to Your Kitchen

Easy DIY addition: Install smart plugs or lighting that can be controlled via apps, or upgrade to a smart faucet or fridge.

Remember – you want your kitchen more than anything else to be a reflection of you and your personal taste.

While trends are fun to follow, it’s most important to follow your gut!
